Revera Celebrates Cottage Life with a Summer Staycation
MISSISSAUGA, ON, August 19 2021 – This summer, as many Canadians escape to the cottage, Revera brought cottage life to its residents with summer staycation themed days featuring specialty culinary options and recreation activities at its retirement homes.
Escape to the Outdoors – Cottage Living, joined future theme day, Escape on a Voyage – Cruise Life and past days, Escape to Canadian Forests – Canadian MapleFest and Escape to Nature – Environmental Week to round out Revera’s 2021 active living calendar.
While much of the world shut down and travel plans were put on pause, Revera’s recreation and culinary teams got to work creating special programming to bring the joy of travel to retirement living residents. Each theme day focuses on ‘escapism’ and intends to bring an immersive experience to residents by creating the experience of going someplace different while staying home and celebrating with delicious food and engaging experiences.
“Life is better at the beach; so we’re bringing the beach to our residents. Our summer themed days are one of the many ways we create opportunities for our residents to live a life of purpose,” says Michele Reid, National Director, Recreation, Revera. “At Revera, we take a holistic approach to recreation activities, so we can customize our programs to reflect our residents’ interests and needs. We seek to create engaging programming that allows our seniors to age actively.”
Each residence plans theme days using Revera’s Six Dimensions of Wellness, a holistic approach to health and wellness that features physical, social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and community engagement for seniors in independent living, assisted living or memory care. A holistic approach to active ageing considers all aspects of the person’s life and attempts to bring them into balance. The Six Dimensions of Wellness are designed to strengthen each of these parts, so retirement years can be our best.
To ensure programming reflects the interests and needs of residents, Revera partnered with Welbi, a recreation management platform. Welbi’s unique assessment tools and real-time analytics help Revera’s recreation teams identify trends and programming gaps, allowing recreation teams to develop personalized approaches to programming at each residence.
Theme days are customized at each seniors home to reflect the interests of its residents. At Escape to the Outdoors – Cottage Living, residents enjoyed a variety of engaging summer themed programming. This includes fresh summer meals from Revera’s culinary team like summer vegetable couscous and lemon chicken thighs with strawberry shortcake and fun activities including outdoor water gun painting, lawn games, trivia and movie nights featuring summer hits.
