Planning the move

We know you've got a big move ahead of you, and we want to help you prepare - mind, body and spirit. Here are a few tips on how to get ready.

Moving to a retirement residence

There are practical matters you need to consider - you need to pack your things, possibly downsize your belongings, and organize the move. Our advice: take it slow. Enjoy reminiscing with family and friends.
There are also emotional matters to consider. Every move marks the end of an era, but also the beginning of another. You want to spend time thinking about what comes next - you can look forward to meeting new people, and having new, meaningful experiences.

Finally, if you are downsizing, take a look at the Downsizing and Decluttering chapter in our Real Talk Guide for helpful tips.

Moving to a long term care home

We know that this is a big move, and that you have likely been given only a day or two to prepare. We are here to help.

Getting ready
For many people, getting ready for long term care is as much about state of mind as it is about packing. The most important thing to remember is that this is your home. We believe in loving where you live and living where you’re loved.
What to take with you
Bring familiar furniture like a chair or side table. Pack a cozy comforter, comfortable clothes and mementos that make you happy. Think of how to personalize the room with photos and pictures.
