Hazel McCallion, Chief Elder Officer of Revera

Happy birthday, Hazel!

99 years of excellence
By Tom Wellner
Since 2015, I have had an ongoing, friendly competition in my role as CEO at Revera with Hazel McCallion. Ever since she joined as our first Chief Elder Officer, Hazel has gotten quite the kick out of telling people she’s Revera’s ‘CEO’. And to be honest, so do I. Hazel is a remarkable role model and I consider myself and Revera to be fortunate to be able to rely on her guidance, wisdom and experience. As she enters her 100th year, ‘Hurricane Hazel’ continues to be a force to be reckoned with.

Most people know Hazel as the longstanding mayor of Mississauga, where she led Canada’s fourth largest city for 36 years. You don’t get to serve nine terms in elected office if you’re not doing something right. One of the things I have learned and come to admire about Hazel is her ability to communicate. She is a straight shooter and her no-nonsense approach to identifying opportunities and helping to problem solve is something the world could use more of.

Hazel’s birthday lands on Valentine’s Day and I can’t think of a more fitting date. Hazel is beloved by many and has a heart that’s big enough to love them all back. I am grateful for Hazel’s counsel, her leadership and most of all her friendship. Happy birthday, Hazel!
